Bankstown Art Society was founded in 1958 by Artist and Tutor Ronald Peters and is one of the oldest Societies in Sydney. Currently the Society has over 200 Members and associate Members.

BAS is non-profit organization and managed by volunteers
The Art Gallery, situated in Bankstown Arts Centre, is fully equipped with specialized lighting and hanging systems. The Society holds their major exhibition in this newly renovated Gallery.
Other activities include demonstrations by well-known Artists, weekly workshops, exhibitions of members' work and social outings.
The DE HAAN Gallery, situated in one of the Society's studios, is fully equipped with specialized lighting and hanging systems and houses a continuous supply of members' ARTWORKS.
